Colts Enjoy Thanksgiving at the Georgia Dome with 31-13 Win

Manning vs the Falcons

For the past few weeks the Colts had not been playing up to the level we had been use to seeing from them. Thanksgiving night, the team once again looked sluggish at the start, falling behind 10-0 to the lowly Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome. From there though, Peyton Manning and the Colts D took over, and just like that the team seemed to return to form in a 31-13 win.

The Colts have and still are suffering from plenty of injuries, but Thursday night in Atlanta they got back one big piece of the offense, wide out Anthony Gonzalez. He was Manning’s favorite target, catching 105 yards worth of passes. Reggie Wayne had six catches for the now 9-2 Colts for 104 yards and a score.

The Falcons seemed to be playing inspired ball, scoring on their opening drive with a Morten Anderson 34-yard field goal and then QB Joey Harrington hit Roddy White with a 48-yard scoring pass to make it 10-0 in the first quarter. For the fans of the now 3-8 Falcons, that would be about all they would have to cheer about.

After starting hot the Colts defense put the smack down on the Falcons offense, holding them to 92 yards in the second half. The big turnaround for Indy was the second quarter, as they rallied for 21 points with Manning throwing for scores to Wayne, Dallas Clark and Ben Utecht. By the time the first half gun sounded, the Colts were up 21-13.

The second half was much of the same, with the Colts defense stepping up, and the Falcons offense not showing much. Indy was able to pound the ball with the running back combo of Kenton Keith (74 yards on 17 carries) and Joseph Addai (44 yards 10 on carries) to keep drives moving. Indy added 10 points in the third on a Addai 4-yard run and a Adam Vinatieri 24-yard field goal to seal the scoring.

Next week the Colts return home for a key AFC South showdown with the solid Jacksonville Jags at 1pm.
