Saturday’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons was a game of attrition as only one touchdown was scored; however, Colts quarterback Jim Sorgi led two sustained drives, leading the Colts to the 16-9 win in Atlanta.
The only touchdown that occurred was an interception of a Matt Ryan pass by Colts cornerback Kelvin Hayden, which he returned for 67 yards and a score. Perhaps the only bright spot for the Falcons was the play of running back Michael Turner, who broke a long 53-yard run in the first quarter along with a run of 63 yards on the Falcons’ second possession. Other than that, it was a field goal-fest.
Quinn Gray went 8-of-15 for 100 yards while Sorgi went 7-of-12 for 67 yards; Kenton Keith led all Colts rushers with 26 yards on 5 carries. Jacob Tamme led all Colts receivers with 3 catches for 57 yards while Pierre Garcon caught 3 balls for 41 yards. Ryan led the quartet of Falcons QB’s as he went 8-of-16 for 62 yards and an INT; Chris Redman went 3-of-4 for 56 yards with his lone incompletion being an INT. D.J. Shockley fared no better, going 2-of-5 for 24 yards and an INT. The aforementioned Turner led all Falcons rushers with 4 carries for 113 yards. Laurent Robinson led all Falcons receivers with 3 catches for 48 yards. The Colts play again on August 24 when they host the Buffalo Bills while the Falcons host the Tennessee Titans on August 22.
