Colts Open New Season In New Stadium Against Bears

The Colts and Bears kick off the 2008 season with a rematch of Super Bowl 41 in the newly-built Lucas Oil Field on Sunday Night Football. The Colts won the AFC South last season after going 13-and-3, but fell to the Chargers in the first round of the playoffs. Peyton Manning threw for over four-thousand yards and 31 touchdowns, but didn’t play one snap in the preseason after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Joseph Addai ran for 1,072 yards and 12 touchdowns in his second season. Reggie Wayne hauled in 104 passes for over 15-hundred yards and 10 scores.

The Bears decided to go with Kyle Orton over Rex Grossman to start the season under center. Orton completed just 43-of-80 passes in 2007 for 478 yards and three TDs. Rookie Matt Forte, second-year back Garrett Wolfe and Adrian Peterson will share carries after the departure of former first-round pick Cedric Benson. The Bears’ top receiver, Bernard Berrian, signed with the Vikings in the offseason.
