Colts Game Traffic Information

With the 2009-2010 Indianapolis Colts season rapidly approaching it’s important to understand safety issues related to vehicular and pedestrian traffic control around Lucas Oil Stadium. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department strives to ensure that fans arriving and departing from the stadium do so in the safest and quickest manner possible.

Below is a list of important traffic information pertaining to the upcoming Colts season.

INGRESS (Inbound)

• Pedestrian traffic around Lucas Oil Stadium takes precedent over vehicular traffic. Depending on the amount of pedestrians, Capitol Avenue will be closed to vehicles at Maryland Street and restricted at Washington Street approximately one (1) hour prior to game time.
• South Street between West and Capitol is closed six (6) hours prior to game time. Only credentialed vehicles will be allowed access to South Street.
• South Street between Capitol and Illinois is closed approximately one (1) hour prior to game time due to heavy pedestrian traffic.
• Individuals needing access to the ADA (American Disability Act) pick-up and drop-off location on South Capitol should come across westbound South Street. Individuals will need to inform the officers at intersections along South of their intentions and will be allowed to proceed to the ADA (American Disability Act) location unless the amount of pedestrians prohibits any vehicular movement.
• ADA (American Disability Act) street parking is available two (2) hours prior to game time. It is located in the north curb lane of West Merrill between Illinois and Capitol. Also in the east curb lane of Russell from Merrill to McCarty and the west curb lane of Russell from Merrill to Norwood on a first come first serve basis.

EGRESS (Outbound)

• Following the game, Capitol Avenue will be closed to southbound vehicular traffic from Washington Street for a period of approximately one (1) hour.
• Vehicles exiting the Indiana State parking garage will be directed northbound on Missouri to westbound Washington Street. From there vehicles can either continue west on Washington or north on West Street. No vehicular traffic will be allowed southbound on West Street.
• Washington Street – westbound is closed at Illinois. All northbound traffic on Illinois will continue north.
• Maryland Street – eastbound is closed at West Street.
• South Street – westbound Meridian Street and Illinois Street is closed with the exception of ADA (American Disability Act) pick-ups. These vehicles will be allowed through provided the pedestrian traffic allows.
• McCarty Street – Following the game all westbound traffic from Pennsylvania will be closed. Both lanes of eastbound traffic on McCarty will be directed onto the I70/I65 ramps at Madison Avenue.

The Indianapolis Colts appreciate the efforts of the men and women of IMPD. Traffic on gamedays can get a bit congested and confusing, but we hope the above information will be helpful for those traveling downtown for Colts home games. We encourage you to obey all traffic laws and watch out for pedestrians, as safety is the first priority. Thank you and enjoy the season. Go Colts!
