Sanders Questionable vs. Titans

There’s some good and bad news regarding Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders. I’ll start with the good news first; Sanders did practice for the third time this week on Friday. Now the bad news; the safety was listed as doubtful for the Colts’ game against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday. According to NFL rules, the term “doubtful” means that there is a 75% chance the player in question will not play – therein lies the uncertainty.

To further add to the mystery of Sanders’ availability this weekend are statements made by both Colts head coach Jim Caldwell and Sanders; first Caldwell:

“Not real sure at this point.”

Ummm, ok. What say you, Bob?

“Not sure yet. We haven’t made a decision on that. If you hear anything, you’ll hear it from coach Caldwell.”

Sanders further added:

“I feel good. I haven’t really had any problems. I’ve got a lot more work to do. I’m getting my time in, (getting his defensive) fits and all that stuff back to where it has been and just keep going. As long as we don’t have any setbacks, I think I’m going to be cool.”

Fortunately for the Colts, they have a bye week next week, so regardless of whether Sanders plays Sunday or not, the extra week will without a doubt allow him to rest and get further healed. While it would be preferable that Sanders play at 100%, not having him out there will not change things much. The Titans, by and large, subsist on ther running game and will probably attempt to exploit the Colts’ improving run defense.

So the presence – or lack thereof – of Sanders isn’t going to change very much the overall game plan of the Colts, although it would be very helpful for the secondary to heal up as it is very unlikely that Kelvin Hayden and Marlin Jackson will play agaisnt Tennessee.

    to Bob Sanders,

If you have not already seen this published today 2/28/10 in the Erie Times News. Please click on link below. Following is my reponsence to Mr Dud Dudley, the owner of Erie Times News and the President and Editor.

    John,

I was appalled after reading your article this morning regarding Bob Sander’s generosity. So Bob doesn’t answer your questions the way you think he should or doesn’t grant you an interview when you want, you write a negative article like this? As a reporter you should be used to this, its part of the job. You have used your position at the Times to write your personal opinion about Bob Sanders. I am surprised this trash writing was approved for print. You even brought your son into personal revenge and juvenile reaction. Shame on you,John!

I could maybe see your point of view, if it were not for everything Bob has done in giving back to the Erie community. Bob is certainly not like other pro sports figures that have made negative comments over the years about Erie. His actions and gifts back to his home town speak louder than any treatment you may have received from Bob.

I have never been a fan of yours, that’s obvious. You are negative and boring in interviews and your writing is uninspiring. This was all tolerable until this Sunday morning. You need to find another line of work and attend an anger management course. What now do you tell the hundreds of kids that attended Bob’s instruction camps during the summer months and who were inspired by a little guy from a small town who made it big? Kids need positive role models! Seems we have fewer and fewer now a days. Maybe your column should be lining the bird cages and litter boxes of Erie Times sports readers.

My response to the Erie Times News article on Bob Sanders…..
Dear John Dudley and Edward Mead,
I wanted to write to express my disgust for the Top Story in the Sports Section today trashing Bob Sanders. John, I have no respect for you as a person after all the horrible words you wrote about Mr. Sanders when all Bob Sanders has done is give back to our hometown.
#1 Who cares about the cost of the computers donated at least they were donated. Let me ask you Mr. Dudley what is the cost you donated for computers? That is what I thought. Bob’s generosity is amazing for athletes and students and for you to make this a personal attack story is horrible and the worst part about it is that it was even approved to be published.
#2 Mr. Dudley with the way you have attacked Mr. Sanders no wonder he will not answer your questions and or meet to be interviewed. I just hope your attack does not stop him from helping children in Erie.
#3 I am sure Bob Sanders will never like but I would be more worried about all the locals that will want to see you removed from your position after this article. You think paper sales are down now – I am sure they will decline even further after this Sunday’s paper.
#4 Mr. Dudley you say you are in the information business what a joke esp. when you don’t even have the ability to get people to provide you information (or should I say lousy at your job). I don’t believe it was Sanders that was mad I think you are the hostile one that needs some professional counseling to get your anger under control.
#5 I look up to Bob Sanders because he is a success story and continues to be generous even after being hurt. I’d lick his boots any day for all his accomplishments but I’d spit on yours Mr. Dudley!
#6 Mr. Dudley you say for Bob Sanders to show some class you tell me what paragraph in this article shows you have an ounce of class? You definitely proved you have NO CLASS to mention your 12 year old son in this article.
#7 Mr. Mead this question is for you,”How could you allow this article to be published after all Bob Sanders did for our hometown, all the donations, wonderful free weekend events and knowing that Mr. Sanders reads the Times News? Nice way of thanking him.
#8 Mr. Dudley keep your personal attacks in the office and not in our newspaper. I’d love to have a framed copy of your termination notice for my frig and you can believe this article will be the lining of my cat’s litter box and all your future articles if you even have a future with the Times News after this stunt.
I don’t want this published and I don’t even want a response back . I just want you both to know how disgusted I am after reading this article and the only person that deserves an apology is Mr. Bob Sanders.
