What Is To Do With Anthony Gonzalez?

Colts Falcons Football
During the 2008-09 season, Colts’ sophomore receiver Anthony Gonzalez flourished at the slot spot with 57 catches for 664 yards along with four touchdowns. With Marvin Harrison gone, Gonzalez would have to step up as the No. 2 option. I thought he would. That was…until the injury happened. Gonzalez was then out for the whole entire season. I kept hearing rumors that he would be back within four to eighth weeks, or something along those lines, but nothing happened.

That year when Gonzalez was out, it looked like Manning would have some trouble. But, surprisingly, he didn’t. The new, upcoming receivers in Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie stepped up and made the season great. Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne were the other players who made it possible to at the receiving end.

Garcon finished the season with 47 catches for 765 yards along with four touchdowns. This also included two big touchdowns. One was against the Miami Dolphins, which turned out into a game-winner. The second helped the Colts beat the Cardinals for sure. Along with that, he also averaged 16.3 yards per catch.

Collie also finished nicely with 60 catches for 676 yards along with seven touchdowns. His best performance was against the New York Jets in AFC Championship, catching seven balls for 123 yards along with a touchdown. He helped the Colts get pumped up after the first half with his razzle-dazzle styling in the second quarter. Collie was also close for the ROY award.

Now the Colts are stuck with four quality receivers in Reggie Wayne, Gonzalez, Collie, and Garcon. But one of those receivers will have to step down from the starting line of receivers. Personally, I think the Colts should do something with Gonzalez in the offseason. Maybe try to trade him at least. Or, just make him the fourth option. Garcon and Collie are ready and already are just as good as Gonzo is.

So what should the Colts do? We’ll find out. What do you think?

I think they should hold onto Gonzo because there will be a hard physical year where one of the WR’s will probably go down for some injury and then you’d be in trouble with keeping the play makers going.
