If JaMarcus Russell Is Released, Is He Heading Off To a Different League?

I’ll also be writing a bit of NFL news/opinions/analysis here at Colts Gab

After the Oakland Raiders traded for Jason Campbell, there were rumors coming up of the Raiders actually releasing JaMarcus Russell.

Campbell will be the starting quarterback of course and as it shows, Russell’s time as a starting QB has now ended.

Now brings a new future for the Oakland Raiders franchise. Campbell is a great start and along with that, Raider Nation also had a good draft, most notably drafting Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain.

But things haven’t been going good for Russell. Just coming off a 3 TD, 11 INT season; Russell will now have to settle for a paycut. After receiving a big contract, Russell probably thought he could do whatever he wants because he has the cash.

That time with the money has also faded.

Russell will have to settle for a paycut and if he doesn’t accept, Oakland will either trade him or release him. I believe Russell can have some trade value, but probably only for future draft picks or something like that.

But most likely, the Raiders will release him. And if Russell doesn’t get any offers, he’s most likely done in the NFL.

His time in the National Football League will be gone as well.

Russell has ruined himself. All he has left to blame is himself. Just nothing but himself. He should’ve just played hard and not be lazy. What were you thinking? You had a bright future JR, but you just blew it.

I had faith in you, until the Campbell signing.

But back to the point. If Russell does indeed leave the NFL, he will have to settle for going to a different football league. I do not believe he will retire. Russell wants playing time.

There are a bunch of leagues he could probably go to. Right off the bat is the Canadian Football League. But most likely, Russell will probably have to start off as a second-string quarterback maybe and earn a starting spot off reps.

Another league is the Arena Football League. Russell can be a starter there, I believe. But there’s a good chance he might not succeed. Considering that the field is 50 yards long, Russell will probably throw too far, and it’ll go in the stands.

I’m not joking. Russell could probably through 50 yards laying on his knees.

Another league is the United Football League. I think he has a good chance of succeeding there, since there many players have had some success. DeDe Dorsey earned an NFL contract after a good season.

Russell can return to the National Football League if he does good there. Some other notable players that have had some success there are Tatum Bell, J.P. Losman, and Simeon Rice.

Could Russell be another one of those folks?

Possibly.

So can Russell be heading off to a different league? Probably. I think it might happen. But it depends…

What will Al Davis do?
