We’ve seen a lot of players lately in the AFC South demanding new contracts.
First, we saw Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson. Then it was Houston Texans’ wide receiver Andre Johnson. Then it was Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis.
Now it’s another Mathis.
Indianapolis Colts’ defensive end Robert Mathis demands a new contract by the team. Mathis wasn’t participating in any teams activities for a while because he wants a new deal.
Mathis has two years left on his $30M contract he signed back in 2006. He is due $2.3M in 2010 and $2.4M in 2011.
The 29-year-old, seven-year pro is had about ten sacks last year, earning himself a spot in the Pro Bowl.
That total of sacks was second on the team, next to Dwight Freeney’s number of 13.5 sacks.
Mathis will probably have wait, maybe, for his new contract, though. Peyton Manning still hasn’t received his deal that Jim Irsay announced was going to be huge.
I guess we’ll see how things turn out then.
