Report: Indianapolis Colts’ Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne To Skip Workouts

First it was Robert Mathis.

Now it’s Reggie Wayne.

The Indianapolis Colts’ wide receiver says he is ready to skip mini-camp and workouts with the team, according to the Associated Press. The mini-camp is mandatory that Wayne is not attending.

“I have tremendous respect for Jim Irsay, Bill Polian and the entire Indianapolis Colts organization, but at this time, we are in disagreement concerning my contract situation,” Wayne said in an e-mailed statement. “Therefore, I will not be attending this weekend’s mini-camp.

“I will continue training diligently in Florida, as I have each offseason since my rookie year, to ensure that I am fully ready for this season,” he wrote. “I hope that a fair resolution can be reached in the not-too-distant future that allows me to achieve my goal of playing my entire career with the Indianapolis Colts.”

The 31-year-old Wayne is expected to make $5.47M and looks to earn $5.95M the year after that. Wayne has is coming off seasons of at least 100 catches or close to that. He is also coming off four Pro-Bowls.

Wayne looks to help Peyton Manning in the passing game for the upcoming 2010-11 NFL season. But now more questions are rising in this situation of contract holdouts.

Will Peyton Manning receive his new contract? Will Robert Mathis get his? Then Wayne?

I guess we’ll see.

But I have a feeling the Colts are getting this handled.
