Indianapolis Colts 2010 Training Camp: Manning Still In For Big Contract

The Indianapolis Colts haven’t forgotten about Peyton Manning.

Of course they wouldn’t.

But since the week of the Super Bowl, Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay was talking about the franchise quarterback’s new contract. The contract was to believed to be the biggest in NFL history.

Now six months has gone by and Manning still hasn’t gotten his deal.

But things are in the way for the four-time Most Valuable Player to get his new salary.

With the latest news about the labor situation and the uncapped year, Irsay says the team will have to wait before negotiations go down.

Manning has one year on his contract and plans to get an extension soon. Jim Irsay told reporters today after a training camp practice that president Bill Polian and Manning are currently working on an extension.

Irsay, however, hasn’t given a timetable of when such an agreement will be made.

Stay tuned on this.

Jerry Hughes Signs

The Indianapolis Colts finally finished signing all of their draft picks.

Usually, all of the team’s goals in the National Football League is to get all their draft pick’s contracts signed before training camp comes up.

However, the Colts barely missed the mark. Jerry Hughes was signed on the second day of training camp after missing the first day.

The deal the 31st overall pick from TCU signed was a five-year deal, according to the Associated Press. Hughes will hopefully help the Colts at defensive end and outside linebacker this year.

He will go into a rotation with Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney, along with playing outside linebacker in blitzing situations.

Terms of the deal haven’t been announced yet.

Stay tuned for more of this and other training camp analysis of the Colts tomorrow on the training camp notebook. Josh Dhani will be covering the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp every Tuesday and Friday. Be sure to check out the training camp notebook, thanks!
