Indianapolis Colts 2010 Training Camp: Manning Awes Crowd in Drill

The Indianapolis Colts practice was turned down towards a stop when a storm happened right over Anderson. But the fans saw the team practice today and were enjoying it as they played in pads.

“It’s practice,” Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney told the Indianapolis Star. “Under the lights, so that’s a good thing…other than the fact (the crowd was) only cheering for the offense.”

The team cooperated and worked well with each other. Linebacker Gary Brackett didn’t mind that the fans were cheering for the offensive squad.

“Yeah, it’s funny how that works,” he said. “We get it. They want to see some points on the board.”

Peyton Manning worked well in the two-minute drill. There was one play that awed the crowd and was something to see. Manning dropped back to pass and looked down to left, just to see his number one target, Reggie Wayne, down at the end zone. Manning threw the pass, and it was caught for a touchdown.

“Hope to see it quite a few more times,” coach Jim Caldwell said.

Irsay Hands Out the Goods

Jim Irsay was seen giving out an autographed and $100 bill attached to each of the fans. This happened near the end of practice as Irsay was being charitable and proud. Nice to see that.

Gonzo To Return Punts?

Wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez could be returning punts this season for the Colts. He did some of that a little bit when he was back in Ohio State playing for the Buckeyes. But the team is strongly looking at Devin Moore, Brandon James, nad Gonzo at punt-returning.

“Good question,” Gonzalez answered the Indianapolis Star if Indy was really that serious of him returning punts for them this season. “I just do what I’m asked.”

Gonzalez hasn’t had much experience on it, returning three punts for 24 yards in three years in his career at Ohio State.

“At the very least, I think catching punts is the best way to warm up your hands,” he said.
