Colts should look at safety Lewis

Michael Lewis would be a solid replacement for the injured Melvin Bullitt.

After not accompanying his team on the trip to Atlanta this past Sunday, Michael Lewis was released by the 49ers on Monday.  Now it’s Tuesday, and he’s looking for work; fortunately for him, he may be in high demand.  The Colts just lost starting safety Melvin Bullitt for the season with a broken bone in his right shoulder, do we have a match in the making?

Already without Bob Sanders, and limited depth at the safety position to aid Antoine Bethea, Indianapolis could use Lewis in the worst of ways.  DaJuan Morgan didn’t cut in Kansas City, what makes you think he will Indy?  Brandon King, is an undersized CB, what makes you think he can successfully make the transition over to safety?

With the benching of Lewis issued by coach Singletary, then the demand for his wish to be let go from the Niners, the Colts could be in luck despite being unlucky with their recent string of injuries concerning the safety spot.  Rather than converting a corner back or relying on an underachieving Chiefs castoff, Lewis could be an excellent option and fit at strong safety.

As a Super Bowl contenders in need, let’s see how desperate the Colts react.
