Powers making a big impact in the Colts banged up secondary

Pro Football Weekly points out how big of an impact second year CB Jerraud Powers is having with injury issues hurting the Colts secondary in 2010.

The Colts’ defense has been erratic thus far this season, but second-year CB Jerraud Powers continues to build off of his great rookie campaign. Powers has brought to the secondary the stability that one would typically expect from a veteran — head coach Jim Caldwell often refers to Powers as an “old soul.” Although he is at less than 100 percent after offseason foot surgery — we hear it takes a full year to recover from the procedure Powers had in July — he hasn’t skipped a beat. In fact, Powers has stepped up his game, showing a physicality and instinctiveness that has resulted in a lot of big plays for the defense early in the season. The way we hear it, Powers, who one day hopes to parlay his great football instincts into a coordinator position at his alma mater, Auburn University, has joined FS Antoine Bethea as the standouts in the back end.
