Manning’s Neck Among the Question Marks in the AFC South Concerning QB’s

4. Jaguars – Can David Garrard Hold Off Blaine Gabbert for the Starting Job in Jacksonville?

Last season David Garrard threw for 2734 yards, 23 touchdowns and 15 picks. So why is he on the hot seat entering 2011? Well, for starters, the team didn’t spend a first-round pick in Gabbert for nothing, and there’s no doubt he’s the QB of the teams future. Garrard has been candid with the media talking about the arrival of Gabbert.

“I just tell them I am always open to competition,” Garrard said. “I think competition’s healthy. You never shy away from competition. That’s just sports.”

Gabbert will play in 2011, and likley will start games if the Jags get off to a slow start. If Garrard wants to stay in the starter role, he’s going to have to play well, and the first time he slips up, Gabbert will be waiting in the wings to start the process of making him the long term answer for the Jags.
