RB Delone Carter – Offensive Rookie of the Year?

It’s a little early for this kind of speculation but there’s a lockout and football fans (and writers) are bored. We therefore dutifully report that Matt Williamson of ESPN’s Scouts Inc “is starting to lean towards” Colts running back Delone Carter as his early prediction for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Carter was drafted in the fourth round by the Colts. He played his college ball at Syracuse and rushed for 1,233 yards on 231 carries and nine touchdowns as a senior.

Williamson adds, “Even if Joseph Addai is re-signed, Carter could flirt with 10-12 touchdowns as the goal-line force in Peyton Manning’s offense.” The physical Carter is the “perfect fit” for what the Colts need while Addai is aging, often hurt, and “just a guy”.
