The Colts have signed rookie safety Jermale Hines off the Panthers’ practice squad, Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted.
This will be Hines’ second stint with the Colts, spending a week with the club in early October.
A 2011 fifth-round by the St. Louis Rams out of Ohio State, Hines made the team’s 53-man roster, but did not appear in a game before he was waived and claimed by the Colts in Week 4. The Colts quickly waived Hines, who was claimed by the Carolina Panthers. In five games with the Panthers, Hines had three tackles, including two on special teams, before he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad in Week 11.
Signing off a practice squad means Hines is guaranteed three game checks from the Colts, which amounts to $66,176. Hines was earning $5,700 per week in non-guaranteed salary on the Panthers’ practice squad.
