Irsay says Manning won’t play this season

With only four games remaining in the regular season, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay does not expect quarterback Peyton Manning to play this season, Julie Pursley of WRTV in Indianapolis reports.

I think with the timeframe we have leftI think it’s something where it will go into the offseason,” Irsay said on Thursday.

Irsay made similar comments in late September, nearly 10 weeks before Dr. Robert Watkins, who performed the operation on Manning’s neck, said that the fusion was a success and Manning could begin the next phase of his rehabilitation.

With less than 25 days remaining in the team’s season, Irsay’s comments today should not come as a surprise. There’s no sense in playing Manning in a game when he has yet to be cleared to even practice. That next step, being able to practice, is really the best-case scenario for the Colts, who will need to make a decision in the offseason on whether or not to pick up the $28 million option bonus in Manning’s contract.
