Colts Grab WR Quan Cosby Off Waivers

According to a league source, the Colts have claimed wide receiver Quan Cosby off waivers from the Broncos.

Originally signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent out of Texas, Cosby caught six passes for 71 yards and averaged 9.9 yards on 70 punt returns in 32 games over the 2009 and 2010 seasons before he was waived at the start of the 2011 season. After workouts with the Houston Texans and Broncos, Cosby signed with Denver in Week 3 and averaged 26.9 yards on 17 kick returns and 10.0 yards on 27 punt returns in 10 games.

Cosby is signed through the 2012 season.

To make room for Cosby, the Colts placed linebacker Philip Wheeler on injured reserve with a foot injury that has kept him out of the last two games. The fourth-year linebacker out of Georgia Tech had 84 tackles and a quarterback sack in 13 games, including 11 starts this season.

In 61 games for the Colts over the last four seasons, Wheeler has 220 tackles and two quarterback sacks and he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
