Tressel Expected to Interview for Colts Coaching Job

Once Jim Caldwell was fired, there was some talk that former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel may get an interview. Now it sounds like the talk of the interview is very much real.

The Indy Star is reporting that Colts owner Jim Irsay was aboard a plane to Sarasota, Florida on Friday, where Tressel owns a home. Irsay was back in Indy late in the day, and there is no word if the trip was indeed to talk to Tressel or not?

The Star says that their sources state that they expect Tressel to get an interview for the Colts opening. Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. is also in line for an interview, along with Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray.

Tressel spent last season being a replay assistant for Caldwell and the Colts, and also did attend some practices to see just how NFL practices were run.

There’s no word that if Tressel was expected to remain with the team when a new coach (provided it’s not him) is hired.

  1. Stephen says:

One part of me thinks that this would be a good hire. Can’t argue with his record at the college level. However, that’s just the college level. who knows how he’ll do as an NFL coach. I do like his defensive mindset though, so I wonder if he could end up as defensive coordinator or something like that.

I like some of the other names on the interview list as well. Can’t argue with the success of the Saints’ offense under Carmichael either.

But Tressel would look good on the Colts sideline in a blue sweater vest, no?
