Vinatieri’s Leg, Luck’s Arm Lifts Colts to 23-20 Win Over Vikings

Andrew Luck earned his first win, and the leg of old Adam Vinatieri gave the rookie the victory as the Colts topped the Vikings 23-20 Sunday.

Vinatieri nailed a 53-yard field goal with 8 seconds left Sunday to give the Colts a stirring win after they allowed the Vikings to score twice in the last five minutes to tie it.

The Colts rebounded after a loss last week in Chicago to the Bears, and even up their 2012 mark at 1-1.

The Vikings tied the game with 31 seconds left when QB Christian Ponder hit TE Kyle Rudolph, erasing a two touchdown deficit.

Luck started the game-winning drive with back-to-back 20-yard completions, then drew the Vikings offside before spiking the ball with 12 seconds to go.

Vinatieri then sent the home crowd home happy with the 53-yarder through the uprights to win it.

Luck was solid, going for two touchdowns in going 20 of 31 for 224 yards. The QB hit Dwayne Allen with a 3-yard TD in the first, and then found Reggie Wayne for a 30-yard score to make it 17-6 right before the half.

The Vikings rallied with Ponder hitting Stephen Burton with a 7-yard TD with five minutes left before he tied the game with a TD to Rudolph.

Ponder on the day was 27-for-35 for 245 yards with two scores. Adrian Peterson went for 60 yards on the ground for the Vikings, who outgained the Colts 327 to 278.
