The Indy Star reports today that despite a lot of change, the Colts have once again sold out the season:

The demand for season tickets has remained strong in a sour economy, ensuring the Indianapolis Colts sellouts for the 2009 preseason and regular season. Consider it a case of the local market flocking to the 63,000-seat Lucas Oil Stadium to watch an appealing product. Over the past 10 seasons, the Colts have posted an NFL-best 114-46 regular-season record, reached the playoffs nine times and won one Super Bowl.

“We believe we’ve got an exciting product with some great talent,” said senior executive vice president Pete Ward. “Of course, we’ve also had a lot of success on the field. You can’t beat that.” The result is a another season of wall-to-wall sellouts and local broadcasts. Since 1999, the Colts have sold out 79 of 80 regular-season games, including the past 46. The only non-sellout during that span was a Sept.21, 2003, game with Jacksonville.

Three simple steps to get to your seats quicker:

1. Enter the GATE marked on your ticket.

2. Remember that LARGE pedestrian RAMPS are located at the Northwest and Southeast corners which access ALL LEVELS of the stadium.

3. Review your FAN GUIDE included with your season tickets to preplan your best path from home to your seats.

*Additionally, for exiting from the upper levels of the stadium, there are eight (8) large stairwells—two (2) in each corner. These can be used to access and travel between every level of the building except the Street (lower) Concourse due to fire code.

We look forward to seeing you Sunday night!

While the new Lucas Oil Stadium has yet to open, there are already issues as the Indy Star is reporting that broken roof drains channeled rainwater into the stadium.  Officials say that the rainwater will not stop the new stadium from opening on time.  Reports say that 2 to 3 feet of water poured into the small data room, damaging equipment which provides phone and Internet services in the building.  They have yet to determine what caused three of the 20 major roof drains in the stadium to fail.  It was only about 30 minutes after the storm ended Tuesday night that crews were working in the stadium.

A limited number of tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday for the  Colts preseason game August 28th.  Tickets will be available at the Indianapolis Convention Center box office and at Ticketmaster outlets.  Tickets for Colts regular season games are already sold out.  The August 28th game against Buffalo will be the first at the new Lucas Oil Stadium.

RCA Dome

A law firm is suing the organization in charge of managing the RCA Dome over how proceeds of a memorabelia auction are being distributed.  Roberts and Bishop law firm of Indianapolis wants money generated from the auction of dome seats and turf to pay down existing debt.  Attorney Paul Ogden says good intentions do not qualify as a reason to violate the law.  The non-profit Indiana Sports Corporation and the Indianapolis Colts Foundation have been slated to split the proceeds.

The Marion County Capital Improvement Board has breached its fiduciary responsibility in the agreement, according to the suit.  Ogden says a public dialogue is needed to determine the best course of action.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars could be raised by auctioning large stadium items and selling others.  The outstanding RCA Dome debt has been folded into debt for the new Lucas Oil Stadium.  The lawsuit asks for an immediate injunction requiring profits to paid into the Clerk of the Court until a decision on the case is made.

The city of Indianapolis today announced their “official” bid for the 2012 Super Bowl.  The city has the brand new Lucas Oil Stadium set to open this August, and with the new retractable-roof the stadium would be the perfect site for the big game.  “It’s not just another stadium, it’s a very special facility,” said Colts owner Jim Irsay.  The city had tried for 2011 Bowl, but lost to Dallas’ new stadium by a vote of 17-15.  The deadline to throw your hat in the ring for the game is April 1st.  Three other cities, Phoenix, Houston and New Orleans are cities that are expected to try and land the game.
