Scout.com has confirmed that the Colts have released veteran running back Najeh Davenport. The seven-year pro came to the team back on December 10th after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 1st. The Colts have five running backs currently under contract. Eight-year veteran, Dominic Rhodes, remains unsigned.

Colts RB Najeh Davenport may get the bulk of carries this week against Tennessee with Joseph Addai likely to be rested, Dominic Rhodes out with a chest injury and Chad Simpson struggling with an ankle injury.

RB Jospeh Addai did not practice today due to his shoulder injury, but is listed as questionable this week against Detroit, the team’s official web site reports. “My sense is we’ll probably hold him out if there’s any question at all,” head coach Tony Dungy said.

With the team playing a Lions team that they can beat without Addai, look for the Colts to hold him out, giving Dominic Rhodes almost all the carries this week with Najeh Davenport as his backup with Chad Simpson dealing with an ankle injury.
