Well after being fired after just one season with the Cleveland Browns, the Indianapolis Colts thought they would benefit by hiring former head coach Rob Chudzinski as a special assistant to Chuck Pagano. Luckily for Chudzinski, him and Pagano have a history together.
The two coached together on the University of Miami staff in the late 1990’s. The two worked together again for the Browns in 2004. Chudzinski is thought of as having a good offensive mind, and although he was down to his third string quarterback in Cleveland, he managed to make a star of wide receiver Josh Gordon who led the entire league in receiving yards.
Some feel that this is a message sent to offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton. Hamilton’s run-heavy philosophy is being questioned with the low production out of the Colts’ backfield. Chudzinski favors a down field passing game that many feel quarterback Andrew Luck is ready for.
Chudzinski is also considered to favorite tight ends and which is why Jordan Cameron found his number called a bunch this past season. This spells good news for guys like Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener.
Chudzinski will also reunite with former Browns’ running back Trent Richardson who Chudzinski shipped off to Indianapolis last year. Kind of crazy don’t you think?
